April 2015 Show n Tell

 

Not many quilts for show n tell this month but we had a great club day, considering it was Easter Saturday many members attended.

 

First up was a display of bed runners which is our community project for the year.

lovely colours and varied designs.

 

This is called a Ribbon Quilt and was made by Judy for her Great Niece, Ella.

 

And the embroidered label.

The next two wall hangings are by Sue E. and are part of a trio.  She showed us the first one last month.

They are a McKenna Ryan pattern, called Seaside.

Judy A. was wearing her show 'n tell! She embroidered the lovely tatted daisies.

 

 

Rosie made this colourful I Spy Child's Quilt

This quilt is called Postcards from Italy. It was a free pattern from e-quilter.com and was made by Madeline.

Another by Madeline. It was a mystery quilt run by her Cell Quilt Group.

the last quilt was another by Madeline.  A Snowball Pattern in purples, pinks and blues.

and this is the back, just about as lovely as the front.  Madeline attended a paint/dye class many years ago and has finally found a use for it.

1. Frances showed us her new cushions that she had made. 

 



 

A very colourful Bed End Strip, which is our community Quilt Project for Cotton-on-Quilters.

 

Lyn S. had some left over blocks so she put them to good use in a boy's cot quilt

and this is the girls's version with embroidery Sunbonnet Sue Blocks.

 



 

This is a framed piece of stunning work by Daniella.  It will be on show in her studio  for the Whanganui Open  Studios Weekend.

 



 

This Bed End/Table runner is a good way of using orphan blocks and was made by Keitha.

 

and another table runner by Keitha.

 

 

Keitha also made this scrap cot quilt.

 

 

Fiona made a "Thomas The Tank Engine" Quilt

 

 

Here is a very large bed quilt in lovely shades of blue, by Donna B.

 

 

Here is a New Zealand inspired quilt, which is off to Fiji and was made by Heather.

 

 

This quilt was made by Jean, for a very dear friend who loves cats.

 

 

Alison B. went to a Griet Lombard workshop at Symposium.

 

 

Alison learnt different ways to applique and also lace made on water soluble fabric.

 

 

Bep went to a class where there was a demonstration of a few products on the market, a good one was the Clover Fabric folding Pen.

 

 

Carol has made a new bag, surprize surprize! this is a mug bag which will hold a mug plus the tea bags.

 

She has some overseas visitors arriving to NZ soon and has made them each a NZ theme bag.



Cotton on Quilters February 2015 Show N Tell.

We started off our meeting with congratulating our Wanganui Members who were part of the Quilt Symposium Manawatu.

Sue, Carol, Judy, Donna, Frances and Helen.

 

This was Frances's entry in the Symposium Exhibition

Little Monsters. 

Another member, Donna also had an entry at Symposium.

A View From My Window.

Lidy attended a class with Mary Pal, called Cheescloth Landscape.

It involved water colour pastels, a painted background and sculptured cheesecloth.

 

 This is Betty's finished project.

 

Betty also went to a class where she painted a design on cotton material to cut up and use as embellishments. 

Helen was able to attend a Mary Pal Class called Cheesecloth Portraiture. This is her finished project using Mary's pattern.

And here Helen has used her own design and colours. Pretty awesome.

Helen said that it is not cheesecloth as we know it but Dianne Southey has been able to source it and has it in stock.

Lidy also attended a class printing leaves and cutting them away with a soldiering iron.

Bep with her finished item from a Donna Ward Class. I think it is part of a Pacifica Table runner.

Bep also attended a class with Sarah Fielke, called Colour Tour, all about using fabrics in your stash and evaluate them by tone and scale. A work in progress!

More Symposium projects. These layered flowers and organza leaf are by Madeline. Made in a Mary Transom class.

Jo attended a Sonya Prchal class called Thread Painted Kingfisher.  It is heavily stitched .

Jeanette had made a jelly roll quilt in apricot colours.

And she has been busy with this Queen Size Quilt of Old Fashioned Ladies.

Sue attended a Helen Godden class at Symposium called Tree of Life.  It is made with hand dyed fabric.

She aslo attended a Deborah Louie class stitching and using coloured pencils, very effective.

 

Jenny R has finished the top of a mystery quilt in black & green fabrics with a touch of pink.  It is a present for her cousin in England.

This stunning wall hanging is called, Goldfish in a Pond and is by Danniella.
