August 2026 Show & Tell

 Hi everyone

Our next club meeting is this coming Saturday so I thought I had better post the photos from the last club meeting before then 😂

Some of our Show & Tell are quilts from our re-visit theme where we encourage members to bring quilts they have made in the past to give them another airing. August’s theme was quilts with houses.

Donna made this house quilt along with her late friend (and COQ member) Carey. They took turns to choose a row to make.

Donna also made all these blocks from Sue Spargo’s Houses pattern. She didn’t complete the quilt but, instead, used some of the blocks to make bags for her retreat buddies.

Veronica made this beautiful quilt from a Yoko Saito block of the month pattern that was published in Quilts Mania. It’s stunning and beautifully quilted.

This Japanese bag was also made by Veronica from a pattern by Jenny Hunter.

Veronica’s also made this armchair caddy in a work shop with Sandra.

Home is Where the Heart Is was made by Trish..

The Houses on Thursday Street was also made by Trish during stitching with a very special girlfriend every Thursday. Trish loves house quilts.

The Little Red School house is also by Trish. She loves red and white school houses.

Pauline made this quilt in her colours plus a surprise.

This was made by Pauline from a Jinny Beyer kit.

Pauline also made this lovely quilt from a 5” pack of Kaffe Fassett fabrics. A nice fresh colour palette.

The Little Houses was made by members of Whanganui Embroidery Guild for their recent conference in Palmerston North. Many of the Embroiderers Guild are also COQ memebers. The quilt was finished by Diane H.

Lesley A is the maker of this Red Peace Lily wall hanging. The pattern is from a Love Patchwork and Quilting magazine.

I’m not sure who made this red and white quilt. I seem to have lost the recording paper. Can someone let me know, please and I will edit this post.

Madeline made this I Spy quilt for her great nephew Basil.

Odds & Scraps was also made by Madeline to use up scraps. She makes pet blankets, dolls quilts and quilts for the hospital’s children’s ward and for premier babies.

The following pictures are from Show& Tell but I seem to have lost the recording papers for them. Please let me know who made them and I will edit the post.

Judy made this top for her nephew. It was quilted by John N and has been taken to its new home in Australia.

Lastly are three quilts for Te Awhina made by May. The first two use the same blocks but in a different arrangement.

This one is Churn Dash Star.

July 2026 Show & Tell

 My humble apologies for the delay in posting this. Life is a bit crazy right now. Hopefully my track record will improve. Show & Tell was short and sweet this month.

First up are some blocks for our COQ community quilt, made by Hana.

The bottom of these two blocks was made from the off cuts of the top one. Very creative.

This beautiful Sue Spargo pattern was made by Veronica. She quilted it herself and the pattern is called Critters and Clover.

Maureen finished her lovely project bag started in the club project class taught by Diane H

The next piece is also by Maureen. It’s called Easter Bunnies and was made for the Fox’s Cottage Daphne Diary Challenge. The inspiration page is show below the piece. 

Lastly is Shoofly in Taupe by Jenny H. This was a block of the month programme from Patchwork Passion from about 20 years ago. Jenny started it at retreat last year and quilted it on her domestic machine.

June 2026 Show & Tell

 First up this month is this beautiful Dear Jane quilt completed by one of our former members, Karen Alexander. Karen is unwell and unable to come back to club but she gave Jo C permission to show us her beautiful quilt which took over 2 years to complete, by hand and machine. Karen quilted it herself and has done a fabulous job of it.

Hanna made a block for the club project. Great colours.

Carol made this bag as a raffle for the upcoming Embroiderers Guild conference being held in Palmerston North.

Carol has a great niece/nephew due in August and made this quit top from a pattern in a Quilts and More magazine. It was supposed to be a cot size but I think a bed is size is great.

This lovely cactus bag was made by Lesley A. She used the freezer paper technique where the freezer paper sits on top of the block and is folded back to stitch. Lesley says she got frustrated doing designs like this using the traditional paper backed foundation piecing method and finds this method works for her.

Next up is a top by Yvonne started in a post Symposium Karen Stone class way back in 2015. Yvonne worked on it during club days last year. The colours used were picked up from the border fabric which was also used as the centre squares. A great way to get a colour combination to work.

Frances enjoys quilt as you go techniques and used a stitch and flip method. She started at the centre using and orphan block and built out from there. All the block units were left over from previous Bonnie Hunter Mystery quilts. The second photo is the backing. The photos were taken sideways and the quilt is single bed size donate to the Te Awhina quilt project.

May 2026 Show & Tell

 Sorry for the long delay posting this.

First up is this lovely sampler quilt made by Caroline using a jelly roll.

Caroline also made this wonderful big boy quilt for her grandson’s big boy bed, it’s called Sebby’s Truck quilt.

Roo-Tine carry bag was made by Linda for Christine, who has lived in Australia historically. Linda says Christine talks about Australia all the time. It’s a gift to say thanks.

Sunflower Serenade is a messenger bag from a pattern By Annie. Linda says she had lots of support from Carol.

Linda also made Bev’s Life We’ll Pieced for her late colleague. Bev was a midwife who loved gardening, cats, chickens and coffee. The pattern is Modern Scrap Quilt by Jenny Hunter and Linda made it for Bev’s daughter who lost her mum too soon.

Dianne H made this quilt for one of her mokopuna

Hanna completed this lap quilt. The inner part was made by a dear friend of hers who passed away last year. Hanna decided to make her part into a lap quilt for the friend’s sister who Hanna will be seeing soon.

The quilt stitching showed really well on the back.

Hannah also finished her wall hanging.

This Lilac quilt was made by Leslie A. She experimented with the half square layout made from a quarter bundle of floral prints and grunge fabric.

Leslie also made a cushion cover and then pillow covers using some of the remaining fabric.

 

Marlene made this blue and white foundation pieced Stars for Friends quilt. It was her first fully finished foundation paper pieced quilt.

The back:

Organic garden by Marlene was 2 1/2 years in the making. She is very happy with the top but not so keen on the back. She is, however, very pleased with the edging and is thankful for Cotton On Quilters’ advice.

Neeta made this Irish Chain quilt which was quilted by John Neilson.
