Show n Tell December 2023

We had a Club Challenge organised by Frances, called Kings Crown. There were 12 enteries and they were each given a 1/8ths challenge fabric to make a 12in square quilted and bound.  It was to be in celebration of the Kings Coronation but it was extended to December.

Here are the members who took up the challenge.

Here is Carol, holding a Temari Ball which she make at Embroiderer's Guild with tuition from D Harries, and a bag which she has made for her Sister for Christmas from a on line pattern.

This is called Slice of Heaven and is a class sample from a class taught by Cherie Gurney. Made by Helen P and quilted by her.

Frances also attended the class, at Foxes Cottage and has named hers Pink Morn.  she said it was a very enjoyable workshop and this is the tutors website. cheriesquiltstudio.co.nz.

This quilt is named Hazy Purple Delectable Mountains and the top was made by Trish Souness and quilted by Helen P and is for the TA Quilt Project.
Modern Arrow and the top was by Lesley McFarlane and quilted by Helen P and also for TA Quilt Project.
And another for the TA Quilt Project, the top is by Maureen Little and is called Diamond Flower Garden and has been quilted by Helen P.
Adventure in Colour by Judy Young and is still in progress.

Tumbling Blocks made by Pauline Walton and it was from a small picture.

A lovely colourful scrap quilt by Maureen and quilted by her.  She said it was easy to work with smaller strips.
This wall hanging is called "Our Christmas Decorations Circa 1960" and is by Annette Bourne.  It started with log cabin tree blocks and was finished in 2006 but she decided it was not enough so added a large  appliqued border, by hand, and found she did not enjoy being a hand sewer but she has finished it for Christmas 2023.  Well done.
This is called Heavenly Singer and the redwork was by the late Heather McLeod. Annette put a binding and label on it and will hang it each Christmas to remember Heather.


Mount Mellick Cushion by Diane Harries.  Was made in a class with Australian Tutor Yvette Stanton.  Mount Mellick is a town in Ireland.  This fringe was knitted and then attached to the pillow.
 
This table runner was made by Donna and was from a kit she bought when she went to Len Southwards Quilt Show this year.  It is for her Daughter Susie.
 

This lovely stitchery is by Jo and was made for her Mother.
 
We were asked to bring along a favorite item and these 2 landscape scenes were made by Donna when she attended a workshop at Cotton On and was a fun day.
Nutcracker Solider, made by Veronica and is one of her favourite Christmas wall hangings.

This quilt is called "Love It" and was made by Marie Greggains, she saw the fabric and fell in love with it.
This was our Christmas Raffle for 2023, 5 exciting hampers to choose from and the winners were Hester, Sue F, Frances, Jenny and unfortunately i have forgotten the 5th winner.
 
Cotton On Quilters will be back February 2023. We all wish you a Happy Christmas and keep safe on the roads.

November show n tell 2023

 

The name of this quilt is Crumb Quilt made by Veronica at a workshop, idea is from Greit Lombard.

This is a Greit Lombard pattern, Cats and made by Veronica and quilted by her.

This is by Maureen and was a Kawandi class at fox's Cottage run by Greit Lombard.

Another by Maureen called Plaidish and was a free pattern from Kitchen Table quilting.

Veronica made this project pouch at a retreat.

Another crumb quilt, this one was made by Judy Young from a class at Fox's Cottage.

This is called "Trellis in the Garden" and is by Judy Young. It was quilted by Helen P.  Judy loved the clever placement of the light and dark fabrics to create the trellis effect.

Christmas Stockings made by Beverly Casey.  She started making stockings in the 1990's and the last few are for family this Christmas.

A lovely bag made by Madeline McCrea using the technique Cathedral windows from a class with Diane Harries.

This is a Fabric Art Quilt and was made by Dot McDermott.  It had to be made with no purchase of materials.  She made it with donated bits and old fabrics on hand and some fabric from friends.  It was made when she was living in Canada.

This is a "Tula Wensleydale" quilt  Quilted by John Nielson.  Lesley McFarlane loves

Tula Pink material and enjoyed the process of paper piecing for the first time.  well done Lesley.

Here are 2 project bags made by Lesley at a retreat she attended a few weeks ago.  One is for herself and the other is for a present.

This is called Ballerinas and is by Pauline Walton.  She saw quilts displayed through a small town in Western Australia and photographed this one on show then she found the material in spotlight.  It is a stack and whack quilt.

Christmas stockings made by Donna and are for her girlfriends 3 Grandsons, all born this year,and a step daughter.

This is a Grinch Nativity panel and is for Donna;s daughter who loves the Grinch.

These Caddy Bags are by Sandra Ryder  The pattern is 2x Catch all caddy by  By Annie.  Sandra made 4 of these at a recent retreat, it was quite a mission she said. 


Also at retreat, these were made by Rosie Neilson  and Judy Potts.

And this one was made by Bep Mooji with help from Judy.  Wonderful effort by all the ladies.

Members were asked to bring along their favourite quilts for show n tell.

A tribute to "The Girl with a Pearl Earring" by Johannes Vermeer. It was made for the COQ Challenge for their 30th Pearl Birthday celebration June 2018. Was made by Frances Henderson

Summertime by Frances and was designed from a photographh she took of one of her outside chairs for a challenge in 2015.

This is  one of Veronica's favourite quilts made many years ago.


This one is called Storm At Sea and is by Carol Burgess.  It was  made with the help of Carol Karl who also quilted the centre blocks.
 

A favourite of Madeline McCrea is "Daisies" made at a Symposium. the tutor was Mary Transom.

And another of Madeline's called Dragon fly and was at a class with Jacqui Karl

Shades of Green by Diana Jones and was made in 2019.

This is a favourite of Lesley called Tracey's Quilt.  The heart quilt blocks were made by members of 

COQ for her Daughter Tracey when she was sick and blue was her favourite colour. It is a very special quilt .

October ShownTell

First up are quilts that have been donated for the Te Awhina Quilt Project.  They have been completed or reconstructed by Helen P, and she has also quilted them.


Blue & Yellow Stars top was donated by Trish Souness and Helen quilted it.


Egyptian Memories was blocks donated by Frances H from her Daughter, Amy and was reconstructed by Helen and quilted.

Mariners Compass was a top made by Morag O'Malloy and quilted by Helen P.


Lilac in Battle was a top by the late Kerry Hackett and quilted by Helen.


Stack & Slash was a top by Frances H. and quilted by Helen.


Kiwiana , a top by Diane Hay and quilted by Helen.


Brown Moment donated to the project.


Front and back of Under the Sea.  By Frances.  Was a block of the month with Aimee's Homestead Quilts.  Started 2007 and finished this year for my yet to be born Great Grandaughter, due in November.  Her parents are keen fishing enthusiasts. 


Opening Night by Belinda Morgan.  It is her version of Tula Pinks Opening Night Quilts and beautifully quilted by Helen P.


Another by Belinda.  Don't Run In Jandals, A EPP quilt. Started in January after running in jandals and having a fall.  The pattern is Hexie Harvest.


This is very fine embroidery called Turkish Delight and is by Belinda.


Rosie Neilson has made these Maternity Home quilts'

This is a Sue Spargo pattern called Fresh Cuts and was made b yJenny Rattenbury.  she used her own fabrics and used black wool flannel instead of 100% wool.  beautiful stitching.


"Gesha Girl" by Lesley McFarlane.  It is her first sashiko piece she has completed.


"Mariners Compass" by Lesley, 


"Kaos" by Lesley.  It was a Griet Lombard pattern and is done with scraps.  Lesley found it fun to do and enjoyed doing the quilting.

A bag by Carol Burgess and was a kit from Plume Art and is a Shashiko Bag.

This is a Japanese Quilt by Linda SnellingBerg and was one of her first quilts completed about 10 years ago.
This was painted by Carol Burgess and she had attended a wine & paint evening.

Little Christmas Bags for Annette Bourne's Grandies.  Her machine was away for a fortnight being services and when it came home she just needed to sew sew sew.

"Cody's 21st Quilt made by his Auntie Annette Bourne and has been quilted by Lesley O'Rourke of Napier.  He requested hexagons, blues and green and random. It was all done on her machine. defiantly met the brief.

Thes wall hangings are by Hanna Snelling Berg, called Never Ending Landscape.
