November 2018 Show N Tell

Sorry this is a bit late in posting, I was having a few computer problems but all sorted now.

 

One of the special Heart Quilts our members have made for a member that is not well.

 

 

Our club ran a free motion quilting class by Donna Ward and this is  Donna B. sample piece.  It was a fun day.

 

 

Diana has sewed up some lovely table runners.

 

 

Disappearing Nine Patch, and was made by Judith A. She said she made it to use up scraps.

 

 

Another by Judith, this is an Eye Spy Quilt.

 

 

Judith's Sister wanted something to give to her German Friend when she visits in Feb 2019 so she made her Kiwiana Table runners.

 

 

We had a retreat at Lake Wiritoa recently and these bags were the mystery item they made on the Friday night.

 

A beautiful wall hanging made by Veronica.  It is a Lynette Anderson pattern.  Just in time for Christmas.

 

These looked amazing, Christmas wreath table centres, made by Carol B. and they are for her nieces & nephews for Christmas.

 

 

A lovely colourful quilt made by Kathleen E.  It is made up of 5" squares and the pattern is from a Pat Speth Book and was quilted by a club member Joy.  Kathleen said it was made from her stash but has not made any difference!!!!

 

 

 Frances has called this "Christmas Baskets" and she is going to be hanging in on her office wall.

Veronica made this at the recent retreat we had and is called "Zen Doodle Cat" He has a very cheeky smile!!

 

Our theme for the month was "Too Hard Basket" 

 

This is a very large quilt by Lynda K. and she is doing it as Quilt as you go.  Never again she said!

 

another for the "too hard basket" is this lovely double wedding ring quilt by Maureen L.  She started it in a class by Heather Harding many years ago.

 

This is a "Postcard Quilt" by Sue F. and is a gift for a friend.

 

 

Frances H. made this bag in a Liz Halligan Workshop, very striking colours.

 

 

these two bags are by Carol B. and are from a commercial pattern.

 

These next lot of photos are quilts that our members have made for a community project and the organisation choosen was The Open Home Foundation. 

 

 

 

 

  We were given a list of gender and what their likes were and they will be matched up.  They were very gratefully received and we were told how much they would be loved by the children.  A wonderful effort ladies.



October show n tell

 

Our club ran a Tote Bag Class by  Liz Halligan and this is the result.  well done ladies.

 

 

Judith A. has made sewing caddy bags and turned them into baby bags.  she attended a bag making class and then turned out miniature versions.

 

 

A Heirloom table runner by Judith. It is a hand embroidered cover to go on a 130yr old music box, she still has to finish the tatting to go around the edges. It will be awesome when finished.

Another by Donna, this one is a lap quilt for her Brother's 60th.

 

 

"Bird Quilt" by Donna.  A pieced top that Donna & her late friend Carey worked on.

"I Want Blue" is the name of this community quilt for a 15yr old boy, made by Frances.
  

 

"Baskets and Flowers" Frances started this in 2005 from a tiny image on Pinterest.  She is now hand quilting it so may take awhile to finish!

 

 

"Funny Cars" by Carolyn for a 7yr old boy who said he likes cars.  It is a community quilts.  Very colourful.

 

 

Another by Carolyn and is for a Grandma so she can give it to her 5yr old Grandson for Christmas.

 

A Trapunto cushion made by Heather McL. in a Christina Barrington class.

 

Our theme for this month was samplers/spring.

 

 

 This was one made by Rosie C. Helen was the tutor and her cat loves it!!!

 

 

these two sampler quilts are by Veronica D. 1st is " Coffee n Cream" as was made at a class at the Cloth Shop. 2nd is called "Black n White with a touch of colour"

and once again not sure of the owner of this pretty quilt.  we had a very busy show n tell!!!!

 

 

This is a sample of a class by Foxes Cottage, in Foxton.  The club is going to run a class for this, does not have to be Christmas can be what ever you want.  There will be a sign up form at next meeting.

 

 

A "Healing Heart" quilt made by our members and put together by Frances.

 

Our quest speaker this month was Donna Ward, from Hamilton.  She was here to run a Free Motion Quilting class on the Sunday (which was a lot of fun) Here is a selection of her Show n Tell.

 

 

 this quilt was her 1st winning quilt  which won her a trip to America for the World Quilt Festival.

 

 Jewel of The Pacific, nearly 20yrs ago and she won a scholarship for this quilt in Houston.

 

 Donna bought a packet of charm squares at Quilt Market

 

English Paper Piecing quilt called "Chasing Rabbits"

 

 This quilt, another paper pieced quilt, won best overall piecing at the Christchurch symposium.

 

 these quilts are foundation pieced.
