We have a nice selection of quilts that our members have been working on over the Christmas break. First up are some Baby Quilts for the Maternity Unit ,in Whanganui.. Rosie says she loves making them.
Trish Souness has been continuing with her love of making these little baby quilts for the unit in Whanganui. the size they like is 24in x 22in.
This is called Kawandi and is by Di Harries. It is an African - Indian tribal tradition. All hand stitched and starts from the outside and finishes in the centre.
Another by Di Harries and is a WIP, half inch hexagons. They are stamped and hand stitched with running stitch. About half of the 9 flower diamonds are currently assembled, lots more to go plus backing and embroidered.
Next are quilts that have been donated to Helen P who quilts them and are for the Te Awhina Quilt Project. This one is Log Cabin Stack and was donated by Maureen L.
Coming Up Roses was donated by Maureen L.
A couple of ICU quilts for the Maternity Unit and these have been made by Madeline.
She also has made this community quilt.
This quilt is called Trout Fishing and is by Veronica and machine quilted by John Neilson. she made it for a raffle for her Grandson who is going to U16 Hockey Tournament in April.
This is called My Best 2nd Tea Towel.. by Hester Den Ouden. She is learning to weave and was taken by her next door neighbours woven tea towels from an Alaskan friend and she wanted to try it as well.
This was a large quilt but i only got a portion in the photo. It is by Karen Carrol and called Periwinkle, she is in the process of machine quilting.
Another very large quilt, called Stag and was made by Mary Sammons. It was from a kit from Grandmothers Garden in 2012, started for her Dad, reinvented in 2022 for her Husband and completed January 2024.
String Postcards by Yvonne Moore. Almost her last string quilt in this series, several big boxes of long trimmings are now reduced to 2 shoe boxes.
Flying Geese made by Yvonne Moore. pattern from a Quilters Companion magazine . She has used Kaffe fabrics as geese and old scraps as background. very colourful.
This is Edwards Quilt and is by Annette Bourne. It is an eye spy quilt for her English Grandson's 3rd Birthday and she is going to hand deliver it to Manchester.
And the back is just as exciting as the front.
Here is a selection of bags made by a few members from the free pattern that Belinda adds to our news letter.
A Memory Doggie by Di Harries and is made from her Daughters wedding Dress, dyed with synthetic dye in blue. He looks very regal.
