August show n tell

Our theme for the month of August was  "Men & Boys"

This name of this quilt is "For Kevin" and is by Heather. It is a double pinwheel block and her husband Kevin liked the colours and decided it was going to be his.

A quilt by Judith A. It is her 2nd quilt she ever made and was for her son, Russell for his 10th birthday in 2002. It was well loved. The backing was interesting as well.

another by Judith, made in 2012 for her Husband's 50th and was designed by her.

"Jason's Quilt" by Carol B. Made about 30yrs ago in a class with Trish Souness. Not a lot of cotton choices way back then and the red fabric is polycotton. Also her first hand quilted quilt.

Jenny R. made this quilt called "Family Ties". It is a memory quilt of her Dad from his ties and badges. The story of his life from birth in Greytown to the end of his life in Masterton in 1998. It was completed in 2003. It won 3rd prize in viewers choice in our local quilt exhibition in 2004.

Veronica D. made this quilt, titled "Boys Toys" and hangs over his office chair.

"urban Stripe" by Helen P. It was made as another quilt for her son as a 2nd quilt. He told her one was enough!  It was entered in NANZQ (now Aotearoa Quilters) and won best use of colour.

"Grapes" by Donna B. for her husband.

A wonderful Aran jumper knitted by Rosalie and is to be raffled.

A bag made by Carol B. The pattern and netting was bought from Village Crafts in Palmerston North. She could not resist using the cat fabric and finds it a good size for all the stuff she carries  to classes.

Veronica D. with her mystery quilt block no, 4. Pattern is by Yoko Saito.

Hester modelled this wonderful waist coat she made.

front and back of Hester's "Grief Quilt"  When the package arrived she knew it was material and thought (sigh) it is a group challenge that I had to complete in 2 weeks before she headed off overseas, BUT... her friends at CCQ in Pukekohe made this quilt for her to grieve over her son's death.  The back has personal messages written on it.

"Out of Africa" by Madeline

Another by Madeline, a scrap log cabin quilt and the scrappy back.

.
This is for Madeline's great nephew, an "I Spy" quilt, love the back.

A baby quilt by Maureen M. It is her own design and totally from her scrapes.

"Orange Marmalade" by Frances H.  She saw the quilt in a book "By The Bundle" by Emma Jansen. Thoroughly enjoyed making this quilt from start to finish.

Pauline W. has made this mystery quilt top into a quilt for a baby with a wool blanket inside. Our club donated these quilts to the Midwivies to distribute to young Mums.

Another by Pauline, a bed runner for her Daughter. Made from scraps of Thai silk sourced in Bangkok.

Donna B. made this for her Grandson's 1st quilt at Gran's. Wonderful back.

Our block of the month project, this is the circus one by Helen P.

Veronica's block

Heather owns the green blocks, not sure who the red one belongs to.
below is "Of the Crosses" by Hester, not quite finished yet.
